Reflecting on KP’s Review of Snails Around France

KP’s review truly warmed my heart. When Kate and I set off on our tandem journey around the border of France, we hoped not only to challenge ourselves physically and mentally but also to capture something deeper—something relatable, engaging, and hopefully entertaining—for those reading from the comfort of their own homes.

To hear that KP found the book “enthralling and humorous” is a wonderful affirmation. Humour was a lifeline for us on the road—it softened the hard climbs, made light of the inevitable missteps, and brought levity to the long days in the saddle. I'm glad that translated onto the page and into the reader’s experience.

KP’s words also highlighted something important: this book is more than a cycling diary. It's a window into the soul of rural and coastal France, told through moments of wonder, unexpected kindness, historical landmarks, and the occasional navigational mishap. It’s both a record of where we went and a reflection on how it felt to be there.

To be described as an “informative travel guide” and “honest and insightful” means a great deal. We didn’t set out to write a polished tourist manual, but rather to offer something authentic—warts, wine, hills, humour, and all.

Thank you, KP, for your kind words and for pedalling alongside us in spirit.
