I was genuinely delighted to read Roger’s review of my book—it really captured so much of what I hoped readers would take away from it. What struck me most was his point that “you don’t have to be a cyclist to enjoy it.” That’s exactly the balance I aimed for: yes, it’s a cycling journey, but it’s also about planning, adventure, humour, resilience, and seeing the world in a different way.
Roger’s appreciation for the level of detail—the 74 days of planning, the daily food logs, and the geography of the route—meant a lot to me. I included those elements to give readers a real sense of what such a journey entails, not just physically, but logistically and mentally too. I'm also really glad he picked up on the humour; that thread of light-heartedness was important to me as a way of connecting with readers and keeping the story engaging.
And finally, his words about recognising the scale of the achievement—I’m grateful. It was indeed a challenge, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Reviews like Roger’s make the long hours of writing and reflection worthwhile.
